OSHC is a free-form environment that allows children to transition between areas during sessions based on their interests. To adhere with supervision and safeguarding requirements, a digital area tracking system built into the Playground app would be beneficial. This could look like: An educator sets up the new 'movement log' within the allocated playground room. A time of movement, area name, is inputted with the list of children commencing the movement. A headcount function can be built-in for conducting headcounts within the area while it is active. Children can be marked as 'departing' on the movement log with a note detailing where they are transitioning to. There should also be a sign-in function for children arriving to the new area, with an ability to set the time the child has arrived. When the area is closed, a final headcount is logged and the movement log is marked as closed. A function that shows what areas are currently open with which children are signed into those areas would be beneficial for maintaining transparency across the team. This would allow educators to identify discrepancies in real-time and allow the Responsible Person or PMC to consistently track children. As an OSHC Director, this is an extremely valuable function and a necessity for OSHC centres, especially larger ones where paper-based lists are not manageable.
